ESU’s Business Ethics Students Visit State Prison to Learn Consequences of Poor Ethical Decisions

East Stroudsburg, PA – Thirty students from East Stroudsburg University’s Business Ethics class visited the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Waymart in Waymart, Pa., on October 22 and November 5, 2010, affording the students a first-hand observation of life in prison.  Students participated in a prison tour and spoke with the SCI-Waymart Superintendent Joseph Nish and other SCI-Waymart employees to understand how a prison operates incarrying out inmates’ sentences and the career opportunities available in the corrections system.

Pocono, Pa.; Tyler Buddock, a junior management major from Bethlehem, Pa.; Ryan Burke, a sophomore management major from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Robin Davis, a junior management major from Duryea, Pa.; John Durner, a senior sport management major from Bethlehem, Pa.; Kevin Eckley, a junior management major from Saylorsburg, Pa.; Matthew Engerman, a junior Economics major from Mt. Pocono, Pa.; Shawanda Farber, a sophomore management major from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Denise Franczyk, a junior management major from Mt. Pocono, Pa.; Nicole Hatch, a senior management major from Milford, Pa.; Michael Kane, a senior sport management major from Stroudsburg, Pa.; Kyle Lurz, a junior management major from Blairstown, N.J.; Brandon McCauley, a junior sport management major from Bethlehem, Pa.; James Mengel, a senior management major from Nazareth, Pa.; Roxanne Pennington, a junior management major from Bangor, Pa.; Kyle Picone, a junior sport management major from Bangor, Pa.; Cassandra Salmon, a junior marketing major from Stroudsburg, Pa.; Connor Schwester, a junior management major from Newton, N.J.; and Adam Watson, a junior management major from Milford, Pa.  The Business Ethics class is taught by Dr. Kathleen Barnes, associate professor of business management.
