Danville, PAGeisinger Health System (GHS) was recently named to Security Magazine’s “2010 Security 500” list, recognizing the organizations worldwide with the best-managed security practices.

Ranked within the hospitals/medical centers sector, GHS was among 75 institutions that were acknowledged to have top-notch security programs. Geisinger ranked 32, and was one of two Pennsylvania healthcare organizations named to the list.

“We work very hard to ensure that our entire health system is secure and safe in every way possible,” said Scott J. Bitting, MPA, CHPA, director, Security and Emergency Management Services. “This recognition demonstrates our commitment to providing a secure environment for our patients, visitors and employees, and that our system is clearly working.”

According to Bitting, GHS participated in a security industry benchmarking survey, from which Security Magazine obtained information on Geisinger’s security tactics.

“Security at Geisinger has been in a growth mode, similar to the growth pattern of our institution as a whole,” said Bitting. “The implementation of new technology and the dedicated security staff on our campuses make our health system a very safe one.”

The magazine’s Security 500 was established as a database and benchmarking program highlighting organizations with proven security policies and procedures.
