Pocono Arts Council hosts the annual Art on Main celebration!

Displaying image001.pngStroudsburg – Art and music will abound in Downtown Stroudsburg as the Pocono Arts Council hosts the annual Art on Main celebration, May 17th, 3 to 8 PM. Art on Main, is a visual and performing arts celebration involving both the business and arts community of Downtown Stroudsburg.  Downtown parking will be free from 3 to 8 PM.

Special events through the day include the 8th Annual PoconoArts Parking Meter ”Fine Art” Competition. One-of-a-kind parking meter covers, created by local artists and community members will be on display up and down Main Street with prizes awarded in both children and adult categories.  Also beginning at 3 pm, the PoconoArts Council presents PoconoArts Squared.  Fine artists and craftsmen will have booths along Main and North 7th Streets where patrons can not only purchase artwork, but speak with the artist or craftsman in person.  This is an excellent opportunity to get an inside perspective on an artist’s work.  Artists scheduled to perform include Margaret Benson, Claudia Schwounburg & Pia Somerlock, Carol Serbin, Alison Gray, Heather Hays Designs and Sandy Lopez.  A final fun event is your chance to take your pictures with the PoconoBears, an enjoyable way to celebrate one of the Pocono’s natural icons.

Musicians will also be performing throughout the day in various locations throughout downtown.  Scheduled to perform are Barry Field, guitar; The Lost Ramblers, Bluegrass; Fair Winds, Irish flute & bass; SheilaMark Duo, accordion & voice; Michael Williams, Patriotic and Inspirational music; and Turner Piano Restorations.

At 6:30, PoconoArts will host the awards ceremony for its Members’ Exhibition 2014 In the ArtSpace Gallery.  Cash and certificates donated by local businesses, organizations and individuals will be awarded in eight categories. An opening reception and ample opportunity to view the work on display will take place from 5-8 pm.

Throughout the day, galleries and businesses throughout downtown will be open including Soho in the Burg (noon-8) and The Living Room (3-8) galleries, Kitchen Chemistry (Cupcake Lab,noon-5); and Josephine’s Fleur-de-lis, featuring fine gifts.   After the traditional festivities conclude at 8 PM, patrons are encouraged to stay downtown and dine at one of Downtown Stroudsburg’s unique restaurants.
