East Stroudsburg, PA – Pocono Medical Center (PMC) and American Candle recently partnered to raise awareness on breast cancer and raise funds for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.
Every year, Patricia Howanitz, the owner of American Candle, holds a fundraising event for a local organization. This year she asked the Spirit of Women program at PMC to partner with American Candle to support women’s health in the community and raise money for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at PMC. Franklin Hill Vineyards was brought in as a new Spirit Business Rewards partner to also make the event a success.
This year’s event was the largest and most successful yet, raising $1,765 for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center during the two-hour event and American Candle donated items to be raffled off as a part of the “tricky tray” to benefit the Spirit of Women program. The Spirit program was able to sell 116 raffle tickets, raising $580 for the program.
PMC’s Breast Surgeon, Dr. Patricia Riley, MD, gave a brief talk on breast cancer, breast health, and the importance of screenings and follow ups. The Cancer Center team also answered any questions and shared health information on women’s health, including our mammography services, and the new Hughes Cancer Center. The breast model was also used to demonstrate self checks.
