‘Recognizing our veterans, a tribute to those who served’

In an effort to continue providing area veterans with the resources and recognition they deserve, Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe/Pike) will host a veterans’ appreciation event on Saturday, Nov. 7, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Middle Smithfield Elementary School, located at 5180 Milford Road in East Stroudsburg.

“More than 900,000 veterans call Pennsylvania home, and many of them live here in Monroe and Pike counties,” Brown said. “It’s important that we honor our men and women who have served and put them in contact with the programs available to them.”

Pocono Medical Center and St. Luke’s will provide veterans with free medical screenings. Additionally, various service items, including haircuts, massages and flags, will be sponsored by local businesses and organizations. American Legion department service officers and the Monroe County Veterans Affairs Office will be in attendance. The Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard will be presenting the American and Pennsylvania flags, and honor the Missing Man Table. A light brunch will also be provided by area businesses.

Veterans and their families are invited to attend. Please confirm attendance in advance by calling 570-420-8301 by Oct. 30. Please provide the name, rank, branch of service and time served of the veteran when registering.
