On Monday, May 8th, the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will kick off a week-long celebration of the 40thanniversary of its thrift shop, The Other Shop, at 1036 Main Street, Honesdale.  “We’ll start with an 11 a.m. ceremony on the 8th, but then offer refreshments, discounts, gifts and more right through Saturday, the 13th,” said Other Shop Chairperson Sandy Kline. “Come enjoy something to eat and a chance to reminisce about the history of the shop, the Auxiliary, Wayne Memorial and, of course, Wayne County.”

The shop hasn’t always been in its current location and it hasn’t always been only a thrift shop. But it’s always been a cornerstone of fundraising efforts by the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, one of the strongest and, with more than 200 members, also one of the largest hospital auxiliaries in Pennsylvania. Until recently The Other Shop was a consignment store, but it was given a new look and a new purpose—thrift only – in 2014.

“We hope that the anniversary celebration will attract people who have never been inside to check out our wares,” Kline continued, “we have many fine clothes, appliances and furniture items, along with knick knacks. Who knows, someone may find that perfect outfit for Memorial Day weekend!”
