A Taste of the Town 4 the Arts

Stroudsburg, PA – No doubt you?ve heard of a pub crawl; after all, we live in a college town. How about a restaurant tour? If you haven?t, here?s your chance to taste the treats of local eateries, & bakeries while viewing work by local artists and supporting the Pocono Arts Council!  On October 6, 2012, participants will meet at the PoconoArts Cultural Center on Courthouse Square at 2pm and enjoy a guided tour for approximately 3-3.5 hours. Committee member, Sean Henry, creator of the guided walk states, ?we do not want anyone to feel rushed.  It will be a nice leisurely pace for everyone to enjoy the history, food and art.?

?We want you to feed your senses as you slip into various galleries in the area and see the amazing work of area artists and sculptors.  Does it get better than delicious food and beautiful artwork??  adds Event chair, Andrea Robbins-Rimberg.

All of the participating eateries and galleries are located in downtown Stroudsburg.  For the event, PoconoArts teamed up with the Jacob Stroud Corporation.  ?We are very excited about this partnership with the Downtown Business Association. There is so much opportunity in our region for great food, amazing art and most importantly, a fabulous afternoon out! We want to show local residents and visitors just what downtown Stroudsburg has to offer,? Robbins-Rimberg added.

Participating Taste of the Town eateries include Marco Antonio?s, Grandpa Pete?s Bagels, The Hideaway, Kitchen Chemistry, Oleo & Aceto Tap Room, Quench Juice & Smoothie Bar, the Tea Room, Venuto?s Old World Pizza, and the Willowtree Inn.  Galleries included in the walk are AndreiArt, ArtSpace Gallery, Backstreet Studio, Clavertis Miller Gallery, DR?s Gallery, Driebe Freight Station, the Galleria, Gallery at the School of Visual & Performing Arts, the Living Room, Main Street Juke Box, and Shoppes on Main Gallery.

Tickets, which include a keepsake art image from one of the participating galleries, are a nominal $30 per person/$50 per couple for PoconoArts members, and $35 per person/$60 per couple for non-members.  All proceeds benefit the Arts Council. Ticket price includes food and/or beverages at all the stops along the way. ?We wanted to keep the event affordable for an outing with friends, your partner, your best friend, whoever you enjoy spending a few hours with while eating delicious food, drinking fabulous libations and taking a pleasant walk on an autumn day,? explained committee member Eileen Noelle.

Following the walk, plan on revisiting the PoconoArts Cultural Center where the Pocono Arts Council will host a very special reception for artist Gary Kresge.  Mr. Kresge was the first inductee into the council?s Art Hall of Fame this past spring and his commissioned piece, Falls at Tobyhanna Creek, will be unveiled during the reception that evening, 5-8 pm.  Mr. Kresge will be on hand throughout the evening to discuss this painting as well as his other works on display in the Studio Gallery.

Both Taste of the Town and the Art Hall of Fame are new initiatives of the Pocono Arts Council. PoconoArts Executive Director, Laura Goss, is thrilled with these new offerings and hopes they will become annual events. ?We are pleased to offer new experiences for area residents and visitors. Taste of the Town 4 the Arts is the perfect time to take a leisurely walk through beautiful downtown Stroudsburg, try a new or favorite restaurant, and step into a gallery you may not have known existed.  It is also a time to celebrate the many nationally know artists, such as Hall of Fame inductee Gary Kresge, that make up the cultural community of the Pocono region.?
