Penn’s Northeast helps British Company find Northeast PA Site

Poconos, PA – Penn’s Northeast recently assisted ABF, a United Kingdom based designer and manufacturer of unique office furniture solutions through its Kite® Table brand, locate its United States offices in the CAN DO Corporate Center in Drums. The company toured more than 25 sites throughout Pennsylvania before choosing the Drums location.  According to ABF CEO and Managing Director Darren Buttle, “The area is suitably located next to major highways making access to major markets such as New York and Philadelphia a breeze. It also offers us a great workforce. “

He also cited the support from CAN DO, greater Hazleton’s industrial/economic development corporation, and Penn’s Northeast as vital to his decision, saying, “What I really liked is that people here were actually listening to what we needed and identifying properties that were suitable to our business. That, in particular, stood out to us. Joe Lettiere of CAN DO and Penny Cannella of Penn’s Northeast both took a great deal of interest in our business and learning more about what we do. They also helped identify contacts and various incentives for us.”

The Kite® Table System is a unique, portable folding table and stackable chair system designed to ensure that users get the most out of their meeting, conference and training spaces. ABF exports to Canada, South America and the Caribbean from its Drums location and will be using U.S. suppliers for 85 percent of its product content.

Success stories like ABF are a result of the cooperative marketing and outreach with the Commonwealth of PA.  Richard Kilner, Pennsylvania’s Foreign Direct Investment Representative in the United Kingdom introduced the company to Penn’s Northeast and CAN DO. Both organizations assisted ABF in the site selection process.

According to Penn’s Northeast’s President Penny Cannella, “It is the collaborative process between the Governor’s Action Team, the Commonwealth’s Office of International Business Development and the local economic development partners that ultimately brings these companies to the region. We are extremely grateful to all of our partners for the work they do and the assistance they provide to companies looking to locate in northeast Pennsylvania.”

Penn’s Northeast is a nonprofit economic organization that works with economic development partners from Luzerne, Lackawanna, Monroe and Wayne counties to attract business and the investment of capital to the region.
