DALLAS, PA – The Center for Economics and Entrepreneurship Education at Misericordia University, in conjunction with Economics Pennsylvania, recently hosted the Entrepreneurship Challenge for 57 students from four regional high schools as part of the free conference, Youth Entrepreneurship Day.

Students and their teachers in grades 9-12 from Crestwood High School, Dallas High School, East Stroudsburg High School and Summit Christian Academy participated in the one-day conference that was geared to teaching entrepreneurship and the business plan process. Students arrived at the conference with a business idea and learned how to develop it into a business plan to enter into the annual Economics Pennsylvania’s Entrepreneurship Challenge.

The business plans being developed are due April 29 and regional winners will be announced May 20. State winners will be released May 27. The five best plans from each conference will receive $300 savings bond prizes for students. In the state competition, students share a $1,000 savings bond for first place, a $600 savings bond for second place and a $400 savings bond for third place.

At the Misericordia University conference, students practiced the skills necessary for writing a successful business plan, such as written and oral communication, math proficiency, economic understanding, technological competence, business aptitude and more. The process of writing a business plan develops students understanding of business, the economy and the role of entrepreneurship in society.
