Endocrinologist Joins Pocono Health System

East Stroudsburg, PA – Pocono Health System has welcomed an endocrinologist to its family of healthcare providers. Dr. Ronald Pyram completed his endocrinology fellowship at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, New York.

“The arrival of Dr. Pyram marks the debut of a hospital-based endocrinology program at Pocono Health System and fully complements our Diabetes Education Program which has been existence for over 10 years,” said Kathleen E. Kuck, President and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center. “We can now offer both inpatient and outpatient medical services in order to meet this growing healthcare need in our community.”

Endocrinology is the specialty medical field that offers advanced training in the endocrine system. Although Diabetes is one of the most common problems of the endocrine system, Endocrinology also includes disorders of various glands and organs, including the thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, ovaries, and testes. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health 2011 County Health Profile, Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in Monroe County. However, there is hope according to Dr. Ronald Pyram. “We are living in exciting times in medicine. With the growing options and continued advances in diabetes management, patients are becoming more comfortable and confident in taking back control of their health.  With the joint efforts of this community and the highly trained team at PMC, I foresee a healthier Monroe County in the near future.”

Dr. Pyram received his Doctor of Medicine from the St. James School of Medicine in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to becoming a physician, he received a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York. Pyram also previously served as a Registered, Board-Certified Neurosurgical Physician Assistant at Lutheran Medical Center and Maimonides Medical Center, both in Brooklyn, New York.
