Donations to be distributed through United Way
Monroe County, PA – Many disadvantaged children in Monroe County could start school without the basic supplies that many of us take for granted. But fortunately, Citizens Bank locations are collecting items from pencils to notebooks as part of their “Gear for Grades” initiative.
Citizens Bank has purchased backpacks that will be filled with new school supplies and distributed to local children in need through the United Way of Monroe County. Due to the need for more donations, the deadline to bring items to local branches has been extended until Tuesday, Aug 23.
The wish list includes the following supplies: blue/black pens, glue sticks, plastic rulers, erasers, spiral notebooks, composition books, notebook paper, pencil sharpeners, pocket folders, crayons, No. 2 and colored pencils, washable markers, dictionaries, binders, pencil boxes and safety scissors. Citizens Bank and the United Way have partnered on a school supply drive for the last few years.
Bank customers and the general public are welcome to bring donations to the following local Citizens Bank branches: routes 115 and 940 in Blakeslee; Main Street in Stroudsburg; Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg; routes 209 and 115 in Brodheadsville; and routes 715 and 611 in Tannersville. The United Way of Monroe County will distribute the backpacks through United Way partner agencies such as: Pocono Services for Families & Children, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bridge, Women’s Resources, Pocono Family YMCA, Pocono Alliance and Pocono Area Transitional Housing (PATH).
“Our needy families and children will be thrilled to receive the new backpacks stuffed with items they might not otherwise have,” said Chris Grape-Garvey, community outreach director for United Way of Monroe County. “We thank Citizens Bank for initiating this effort and thank Monroe County residents for their donations.”
“Gear for Grades will help many children start the school year off right,” said Donna Satzger, assistant vice president/branch manager for Citizens Bank in Stroudsburg.
