Wilkes-Barre, PA – Geisinger Health System’s United Way employee campaign concluded with unprecedented contributions totaling $317,002, far exceeding the campaign’s goal of $250,000 and the highest amount ever raised during its annual campaign. Geisinger employees contributed to United Way agencies across central and northeastern Pennsylvania during this year’s campaign, which began on Sept. 18 and concluded on Nov. 30.
“The Geisinger mission and the goal of United Way share a common purpose: to improve the quality of life for people in the communities we serve,” said Glenn Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D., Geisinger Health System president and CEO. “For more than a decade, our employees have contributed to area United Way agencies during our annual employee campaign, and I’m proud that the Geisinger family has once again come together in support of such a good cause and to make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.”
Employees had the opportunity to designate to which United Way agency they would like their donation directed.
“These are challenging economic times for many area families and for our local United Way agencies that supply food, shelter and special services to community members in need,” Dr. Steele said. “That Geisinger employees were able to contribute in record numbers to the United Way during this year’s campaign speaks to their generous and caring spirit, and their desire to fulfill Geisinger’s mission to serve our communities.”
Geisinger has a long history of support for the United Way. In the last 10 years, members of the Geisinger family have contributed more than $2 million to the United Way through the annual campaign.
