As a non-profit, what does your Form 990 say about you? Do your stakeholders- does the public- understand what they are reading about your organization?

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Nonprofit & Community Assistance Center (NCAC) is partnering with the Luzerne Foundation, the Scranton Area Foundation, the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), and NEPA Alliance to sponsor New Form 990 Training:  Public Relations Opportunity or Trap for the Unwary?

Because most charity Form 990’s are instantly available on the Internet, they can be a charity’s most important public relations document. They can also be traps for the unwary that lead to confusion, serious adverse publicity, and governmental sanctions. The IRS has conducted a major media campaign about the significant changes that have occurred.  This session will view the new Form 990 from the

perspectives of a donor and a regulator (IRS) and discuss best practices for using the Form as a tool to provide transparency on a charity’s operations.

The session will also include an overview of the an internal IRS form that agents use in reviewing the Form 990. This form is drawing a lot of attention as it provides insight into the IRS’s policies and procedures.

The workshop will be held on June 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at The Northeastern PA Council, Boy Scouts of America, in Moosic. Networking, registration and breakfast begin at 8:30. Cost: $15 for NCAC/PANO members, $25 for non-members. To register or for more information, call NEPA Alliance at (570) 655-5581, ext. 231.
