PMVB and Careerlink to hold Pocono Mountains Hospitality Scholarship Golf Tournament

Pocono Mountains, PA – The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB; 800poconos.com) and PA CareerLink of Monroe County are proud to announce the 4th Annual Pocono Mountains Hospitality Scholarship Golf Tournament to be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. This year marks a special year as Shawnee’s course was completed in 1911, making it A.W. Tillinghast’s first ever design and celebratory 100th Anniversary. The 18- hole, four person scramble golf tournament benefits local students accepted into tourism and hospitality degree programs.

Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. accompanied by a barbeque style lunch, followed by the shotgun start for the tournament at 12:00 p.m. A sit-down dinner at The Worthington Ballroom, tournament winner awards and a raffle drawing will conclude the day. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams in each flight, as well as “closest to the pin” winners and “the longest drive” for both men and women.

The tournament will feature a four person team scramble and is broken down into three flights.  Cost for the tournament is $150 per person or $600 per foursome. Fee includes green fees, cart rental, lunch, cocktail reception, dinner and one raffle ticket for the drawing. The field is limited to the first 30 foursomes, so golfers are advised to sign up quickly. Non-golfers may attend the post-tournament dinner and awards event by purchasing a ticket at $40 each.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Pocono Mountains Hospitality Scholarship program, which awards scholarships to high school seniors throughout Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties. Recipients must be accepted into an accredited Hotel Restaurant Tourism, Travel & Tourism Management, Culinary Arts, or Resort Management degree program at a two or four year college. In addition, three $1,000 scholarships will also be presented; the Harry and Mary Kiesendahl Memorial Scholarship which is being awarded to a Wallenpaupack Area High School Senior, the East Stroudsburg University Hotel Restaurant Tourism Management Scholarship and the East Stroudsburg University Recreation & Leisure Services Management Scholarship.

Sponsors for the tournament include PPL, Career Development and Employment Ltd., Julian James Advertising Design, Northampton Community College and Woodfield Manor. Additional sponsorships are available ranging from $100 for a hole sign to $5,000 for a major sponsorship.
