Pocono Medical Center & American Candle Partnering to Raise Awareness on Breast Cancer

East Stroudsburg, PA – Pocono Medical Center (PMC) and American Candle are partnering together to raise awareness on breast cancer and raise funds for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.

Every year, Patricia Howanitz, the owner of American Candle, holds a fundraising event for a local organization. This year she asked the Spirit of Women program at PMC to partner with American Candle to support women’s health in the community and raise money for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at PMC.

Spirit of Women, the free women’s wellness program at PMC, is part of a national network of leading hospitals dedicated to improving women’s lives with innovative health and community programs. PMC’s Spirit of Women program touches the lives of thousands of women in our community through the presentation of educational events; a business rewards partner program, health promotion materials, free health screenings, and grassroots efforts to improve the health and well-being of women in the Poconos.

This year, the fundraising event called Shop for a Cure, will be held on Friday, May 10th from 6PM-8PM at the American Candle Store on Route 611 in Bartonsville. American Candle, a Spirit of Women Business Rewards Partner, will have storewide sales and host a tricky tray with great gifts for Mother’s Day. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.

PMC’s Breast Surgeon, Dr. Patricia Riley, MD, will give a brief talk and hold a question and answer session about breast health. Franklin Hill Vineyards, another Spirit of Women Business Rewards Partner, will be providing a complementary wine spritzer including the drink recipe-a perfect way to celebrate mother’s day!
