Visitors Design Their Own Life’s Greater Than Icons

Pocono Mountains, PA – The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) has been actively promoting their latest Facebook contest, the Greater Maker (@PoconoTourism). Visitors to the region have the opportunity to create their favorite Pocono Mountains experience by designing their own “Life’s Greater Than” icon using the Greater Maker Facebook application, with the possibility to “become famous” for their art work.

As in the past, the contest is primarily promoted within the metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia and supported by a media mix composed of online, billboards, train wraps, train posters, and Facebook advertisements. Each week the judging panel, comprised of PMVB marketing team members, selects a weekly winner to have their icon featured in digital advertising located in both Philadelphia and New York City and therefore become famous for the week. In addition, monthly winners are selected from the weekly winners and are awarded a getaway to various Pocono Mountains resorts and hotels. Through the PMVB partnership with the WPIX 11 New York news station, monthly winners are also announced on the WPIX 11 morning news.

“Facebook applications are a fun way to interact with our Facebook fans and those interested in the Pocono Mountains,” said Alicia Quinn, director of public relations and communications for the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. “This particular application provides a unique way for fans to engage in the Pocono Mountains experience and share their own interpretation of the destination.”

The first step in creating a “Greater Maker” is to select the pre-set “Less Than” images on the right side of the equation, whether it be taking out the trash, riding the noisy subway or any of the 25 images representing an action that the participant would like to escape from. Next participants are able to create their favorite scene in the Pocono Mountains for the “Greater Than” side of the equation, using the dozens of people, accessories, environment and activity items available within the application, allowing for endless icon variations.

This month, to encourage participation from the PMVB members, the restaurants, attractions and lodging facilities in the region, the Bureau has announced the Greater Maker Member Challenge. Members have been asked to create and submit a Greater Maker icon representing their property to be entered in the contest. During a two-day voting period on July 23 at 12 p.m. through 12 p.m. on July 25, submissions will be featured in a photo album on the PMVB Facebook page for fans to vote by “liking” their favorite member icon. The member icon with the most likes at the end of the voting period will win a Pocono Mountains team building day for their staff.
