Stroudsburg, PA – The Pocono Arts Council is pleased to present three artists for the month of August at the PoconoArts Community Cultural Center. Featured Artist in the ARTSPACE Gallery is Linda Kreckel. When Linda retired from a career in education, she found time to pursue her love of watercolor paintings. She began painting by studying watercolor art with Dana Siebler of Stockertown and taking classes with Dana Van Horn and William Wentz at the Baum School of Art in Allentown. Later, she studied under artists Tim Weaver, John James, Janet Walsh (past president of the American Watercolor Association), and Mel Stabin. Her first watercolor purchase was a work by local artist, Phoebe Conrad. Hanging that painting began her love of watercolor. Linda is a member of the Pocono Arts Council, president of the Nazareth Paint Box Art Club and a member of the Bethlehem Palette Club. She has won a Best in Show award and has placed in several local art shows in the last few years. Her Christmas Barn appeared on the cover of Milford magazine.
The soft transparency associated with watercolors attracts her to this medium. Linda enjoys painting local rural landscapes, especially Pennsylvania barns and houses. She is inspired by scenes from her travels and flowers from her own garden. The challenge of watercolor keeps her involved in drawing and learning how to design and create each new watercolor piece so the viewer may feel a connection to the piece. Learning to work with values, light, color and shapes to create a piece with good composition is a must but practice is the key. Joining Linda are 18 juried ARTSPACE artists whose works range from painting and photography to glass.
Featured for August in the Studio Gallery, also located in the PoconoArts Cultural Center, are Miharu Lane, oils, and Jill Swersie, acrylics. Miharu’s work will reflect two of her favorite topics, “Mountains and Sea,” and Jill will feature her whimsical view of everyday life.
Finally, the Hall of Poetry & Writings features the poems of Stephanie Buck and Kelsey Fisher.
An opening reception will be held on August 6, 1-4 pm, with snacks and refreshments served. For further information on the ARTSPACE Gallery visit www.artspacegallery.net. For information on the programs and services of the Pocono Arts Council, call 570-476-4460 or visit www.poconoarts.org.
