Tannersville, PA – A project to help students at J.T. Lambert Intermediate School in the East Stroudsburg Area School District learn how to protect local natural resources will get a boost in funding as a recipient of an Environmental Education Grant from PPL’s Project Earth program.

The school received a $4,200 grant for “Protecting Our Watershed,” a hands-on student project to evaluate, protect and promote the health of the area’s watershed. Once a month, students visit Reservoir Run to gather water samples for an ongoing study of the watershed’s health. Through tabletop presentations, digital video public service announcements and a website, the data will be shared with students across the country in an initiative to encourage others to begin their own efforts to protect local watersheds for future generations.

“PPL is proud to be able to support local students who are working to make a positive impact on the environment and their communities,” said Paul Canevari, regional community relations director for PPL. “Through this project, students from J.T. Intermediate not only are able to learn about their local environmental resources but also have inspired their fellow students to become stewards of the environment.”

This year, PPL awarded more than $24,500 in Project Earth grants to schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to promote environmental education. Since the program’s inception in 2003, PPL has awarded more than $143,000 for projects in 75 schools near PPL facilities.

A team of PPL employees, environmental professionals and educators chose the winning projects. PPL sponsors the Environmental Education Grants program as part of PPL’s Project Earth, an initiative to educate the public about energy resources and the environment.
