Stroudsburg, PA – Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will be holding its 20th annual Old Time Christmas event on Saturday and Sunday December 4th and 5th and Saturday and Sunday December 11th and 12th, 2010. Public tours run from 3:30pm to 7pm with continuous tours every 15 minutes, the last tour starting at 7pm. Church groups, Scout troops, Red Hat ladies and other groups of 12 or more can make reservations for tours from 2:30pm to 3:30pm each day. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 3 through 12. There is a group discount for groups of 12 or more.

During the tour, guides dressed in period clothing lead you by lantern light throughout the farm. Your first stop will be at the “home” of a Victorian era family who will share some interesting apple lore and holiday decorating ideas. Learn about the Christmas Putz, a Moravian tradition, of placing the crèche and a miniature village complete with houses, stores, people, animals, and scenery under a decorated tree. At the barnyard a living Nativity scene, complete with the animals, will inspire families and bring the true meaning of the season to life. In the Granddaddy Cabin the story of a truly humorous, magical Christmas will bring a twinkle to your eye. As the tour continues in the reconstructed 1893 one room schoolhouse visitors can join in with the Carolers singing Christmas songs. In the1760’s cellar kitchen the Belschnikel, a traditional Pennsylvania German figure, pays a visit and decides which children have been naughty or nice! Good children were always rewarded with candy, mothers of naughty children were handed switches! Your visit to a Christmas of the 1800s will end in our Engel Education Building with complimentary refreshments. And don’t forget to browse in our gift shop filled with beautiful, hand crafted items.

Experience an old-fashioned Christmas, from a time before the advent of bright lights and toy commercials, where the light of twinkling stars and lanterns guide you, the noises you hear are the soft mooing of the cow and the sweet voices of carolers, when the best Christmas gift of all was from the heart and not the store. Come join us at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm as we celebrate the holiday season with a candlelit Christmas.
