Sdipasquleaturday June 21, 2014 Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will open for their Summer Tour Season starting with their seventh annual Summer Garden Party. Visitors coming to the farm for the historic tour will have a chance to involve themselves in a variety of garden-related activities. Tour a typical Pennsylvania German kitchen garden, get help with garden basics and container gardens. Sample yummy things made with fresh herbs and vegetables. At the outdoor brick oven herb breads will be baked and samples shared.

A talk on Farmscapes – Capturing the Beauty will be presented at 11:00 and 1:00 and a demonstration entitled Not Your Everyday Plant Material – Natural Dyeing will take place at 11:30 and 12:30.

There will be new adventures at the party in celebration of the Summer Solstice. Mr. Sun cupcake decorating, Butterfly Wing making and Pin the Bee on the Sunflower will entertain little children. Older youth and adults will enjoy making Perforated Paper Suns and Sunflower Envelopes, and learning about Sundials. Veggie Art and the Soil Box are places folks can get their hands into some good, clean fun as well.

This event is sponsored in part by a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Project Stream grant.

We will be holding a Victorian Tea during the day at 2:00. Ages ten and up can enjoy the tea with a salad, fresh baked cookies and cake, along with tea sandwiches, herbal teas and lemonade. Quiet Valley’s very own “Emma Marsh” will compare life as a city girl in the 1890s to that of a bride on a small, country farm with comments on the differing fashion styles. The cost is $12.00 per person and reservations are required. Tea Party attendees receive a discounted admission to the Historic Tour and Summer Garden Party. Seating is limited so call soon to reserve your spot.

All activities on June 21 are rain or shine. General admission is Adults $10.00 and Children 3-12 $5.00 and includes both the historic farm tour and Summer Garden Party. The farm is open for tours 10:00 – 5:00. Allow two hours for the complete farm tour.
