Shawnee, PA – Is your golf game ready for spring or does it need a warm-up?
Whether you are ready to hit the links like a professional or need a little help, mark Thursday, April 28, on your calendar. The United Way of Monroe County and Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort are partnering for their first golf tournament: Swing Into Spring with the Pros.
Besides being early in the season, this event is unique because it will offer expert advice from golf pros during an instructional clinic and a Q & A session. At selected holes, participants will also receive helpful tips on their technique from the specialists at Shawnee. The resort is celebrating 100 years of golf history this year, with legendary players like Arnold Palmer, Paul Runyan, Sam Snead and Jackie Gleason. Its renowned AW Tillinghast course has been the site of major championships and tournaments.
The optional clinic will start at 11:15 a.m., while the tournament tees-off at noon with a shotgun start. The format is a four-person scramble.
Players will enjoy a great day of golf and help the United Way’s 2011 campaign at the same time. The registration fee is only $125 per golfer or $450 for a team of four. This includes free golf instruction, a box lunch, 18 challenging holes of golf, a dinner buffet, ShawneeCraft beer and contests/prizes.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available, including hole sponsorships at $100, corporate foursome sponsorships at $500, a Snead sponsorship of $1,200 and a Tillinghast Sponsorship of $2,500.
“With winter lasting so long, area golfers can’t wait to get on the greens, and this is a perfect time to do so,” said Jay Voelker, golf sales manager at Shawnee. “We are delighted to partner with the United Way and provide the donation of our course for what should be a fantastic day for all participants.”
“The instruction from PGA professionals will help get the 2011 golf season off to a great start for participants,” agreed Mathilda Sheptak, executive director of the United Way of Monroe County. “We thank all sponsors and players in advance for helping to support our community’s health and human services through United Way.”
