Two local women presenting at the 1st Annual Peace Conference

Stroudsburg, PA – Three-time Mrs. Kenya pageant winner, Caroline W. Verkaik, and community activist, Carole’ Ann F. Bowyer, Business Development mEnterprise Solutions, have been invited to participate in the 1st Annual Peace Conference at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA on March 3-4, 2011.

The conference seeks to bring together educators, researchers, students, community activists, non-profit professionals, artists, poets, writers, and individual citizens involved in the teaching, learning, and practice of peace not only in a traditional classroom setting but also in the larger community.  The focus of the conference will be to engage participants and presenters in reflecting about and discussing how we can individually and collectively work to meet today’s challenge of resolving conflict by promoting peace and justice (social, environmental, restorative etc.) in our local and global communities.

“Whenever I speak, I speak from my heart. Life is so difficult in my country due to the lack of clean water. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with the many obstacles and challenges that my people face but I go on because I am their voice,” said Verkaik.

“I am convinced that Caroline and I are making a difference by the huge support and kind gestures we continue to receive. I find that people want to help but don’t know how. Although the problem is huge, we know that our passion and hearts are bigger,”said Bowyer.

Verkaik and Bowyer will be speaking about their personal experiences in Kenya.  They’ll be sharing some personal stories and why they believe two ordinary women can make a difference in the lives of so many.
