Monroe Couty, PA – The United Way of Monroe County will officially kick off its 2012 campaign this Saturday, Sept. 1, at StroudFest in downtown Stroudsburg. The organization is the main sponsor of the festive event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
You can visit the United Way’s booth at the corners of Main and North 7th streets. A dunk tank, face painting and a raffle prize drawing will be part of the fun as they celebrate the start of their annual campaign.
United Way partner agencies will also be part of StroudFest, which features lots of music, food and a wide variety of vendors. A special presentation will be made by United Way campaign chair Trip Ruvane on the main stage around 3:45 p.m.
Besides StroudFest, the local United Way is gearing up for its annual Day of Caring on Thursday, September 13. Community members are welcome to sign-up for this day of service that helps area nonprofits with diverse projects from landscaping and painting to clerical work and minor construction.
Volunteer teams comprising one to 200 people are welcome to participate in Day of Caring. Participants can help with projects for half a day or a full day. Families, friends, companies, parishes, clubs; everyone is encouraged to volunteer. After a long day of hard work, participants are rewarded with a picnic hosted by Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville.
Local nonprofit agencies – not just United Way partners – can still submit projects as part of the Day of Caring. To sign-up your organization, contact Chris Grape-Garvey at 570-629-5657.
