Tannersville – Volunteers, individuals, businesses and organizations who contributed to the 2013 United Way of Monroe County campaign were honored Thursday, March 20, at The Chateau Resort and Conference Center in the Poconos.
Many contributors were thanked and special honors presented throughout the evening. These included awards for employee campaigns, outstanding volunteerism, as well as exceptional commitment to the United Way’s mission to “Live United.” According to outgoing campaign chair, Ralph Megliola, “Each year we honor those who made positive contributions to our community over the past year, as well as those who continue to demonstrate a commitment to the United Way of Monroe County and its mission.”
One of the top distinctions of the night was the Evelyn Frederick Community Service Award, presented to Pocono Health System for extraordinary leadership and commitment to the United Way and its mission.
Another prestigious honor, the Spirit of Caring Award, was presented to Weiler Corporation for exemplary dedication to Give, Advocate and Volunteer in our community.
Ralph Megliola received the Clifford R. Gillam Award, recognizing an individual who represents the spirit of outstanding volunteerism to the United Way of Monroe County. The award is presented annually in memory of Clifford R. Gillam, “Mr. Buck Hill,” a founder/ longtime leader in the organization.
The Evelyn Frederick Community Service Award, the Spirit of Caring Award and the Clifford R. Gillam Award are voted on by volunteers within the United Way of Monroe County, from board members to the campaign cabinet to committee people.

The United Way of Monroe County provides health and human services through community initiatives and funding to more than 30 local health and human service, and youth programs.
