Honesdale, PA – The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has awarded its first ever nursing scholarship to Stacey Sutton-Jackson, a nurse aide at the hospital currently pursuing an education to be a registered nurse. The $1,000 scholarship was designed specifically for a student in his or her second and final year of nursing at Wayne Memorial’s new School of Nursing, an affiliation with Luzerne County Community College. Stacey fit the bill!
The hospital’s Auxiliary also coordinates the selection of recipients for two other prestigious nursing scholarships. This year, Honesdale High School 2011 graduate Sharrie Kraft received an Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer scholarship for approximately $9,416. She plans to attend Mansfield University. Gabrielle Buteau and Rianne Erlwein each received a $1,000 Victoria Robinson award. Gabrielle, a 2011 Delaware Valley grad, will attend West Chester University. Rianne, Sullivan West 2011, will attend Utica College.
All the awardees supplied high school transcripts, letters of recommendation, proof of admittance to a nursing program and an essay on why they were deserving of an award.
The WMH Auxiliary raises funds to help support the hospital and its services through its shops, The Other Shop One and Two and the Gift Box in the hospital, and events such as the Mistletoe Ball and Showtime at the Ritz. The Auxiliary was the largest single donor to the hospital’s recent capital campaign. For more information, contact President Sandy Kline at (570)253-4931.
