The Board of The John and Helen Villaume Foundation has announced the selection of one of the recipients of the 2015 Helen Villaume Education Enrichment Grant Award.
Mr. Peter Casazza, a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Damascus School, part of the Wayne Highlands School District, received an award of approximately $1,522.00 from Villaume Foundation board member Rev. William Samford. This grant will be used for an educational tour of approximately 20 historic sites in and around the Philadelphia area including Independence Hall, National Constitution Center, Valley Forge National Park and Washington Crossing Historic Park. Mr. Casazza will then create a power point presentation and map of the sites visited to be presented to his students prior to their 8th grade trip to Philadelphia and will write educational activities for the students that would coincide with the many exhibits and displays during their trip. Additionally, Mr. Casazza will create a picture library of the various sites visited to be utilized in his classroom during the course of the school year.
The John and Helen Villaume Foundation established grants to provide Wayne County teachers with a unique opportunity to enhance, expand or experiment in their areas of certification, thereby enriching and improving the achievement of their students.
The John and Helen Villaume Foundation established by Honesdale natives John and Helen Villaume was created to benefit charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational programs within Wayne County. Since its inception, the Foundation has made awards totaling over $1,000,000.00 with Wayne Bank managing the account in the Wealth Management and Trust Services Division of Wayne Bank.
