East Stroudsburg, PA – The community of East Stroudsburg is invited to paint the town red and black along with thousands of East Stroudsburg University students and alumni during the annual Homecoming Celebration Fireworks Show and Parade scheduled during the weekend of Oct. 21-23.

The annual Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at noon. For the first time this year, sections of East Stroudsburg are part of the parade route which begins off campus at Dansbury Park on Washington Street, winding through the residential area along Analomink Street, turning right onto Smith Street, coming to an end on Centre Street.

The family-friendly parade will include floats, bands, candy for the kids, and more!

The community is also invited to come out Friday, Oct. 21 for a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at the Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium and to cheer on the Warriors at the ESU versus Millersville football game on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. The stadium is the best vantage point for viewing the fireworks show.

“We are thrilled to be welcome the residents and community of East Stroudsburg into this wonderful weekend celebration,” said Mike Saraka, director of alumni engagement for the ESU Foundation. “Alumni will travel from far and wide to attend Homecoming 2011 and including the community that has supported the university since it was founded in 1893 is just the right thing to do.”

Residents, scout troops, service organizations and local businesses are welcome to march, pull a float, perform, or decorate a car to ride in the parade. Staging begins at 10 a.m. at Dansbury Park. Pre-registration is required by going to www.esualumni.org/parade11.

The community group or organization with the most spirited showing in the parade will receive a $100 prize and recognition at the Homecoming football game and on the alumni e-newsletter. In addition, all participating groups are invited to enjoy complimentary refreshments after the parade near the Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Homecoming Parade and Fireworks show is part of a full-weekend of activities for returning alumni, including a Reunion and Awards Banquet on Friday, Oct. 21. On Saturday, Oct. 22, the festivities continue with the Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony, pre-game tailgate before the ESU versus Millersville football game, followed by a young alumni networking gathering in the evening. Sunday, Oct. 23 closes out the Homecoming Celebration with a recognition breakfast and planetarium show.
