Visitors Bureau Combines Efforts to Promote in Major Metropolitan Areas

Pocono Mountains, Pa – The Pocono Mountains (800poconos.com) launched a multi-faceted marketing campaign for the four-county region encouraging nearby metropolitan residents to take advantage of the outdoors, recreational activities and family hot spots close to home and just in time to welcome summer.  Underwritten and supported solely by the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) and its partners, the summer campaign represents the evolution of the regional marketing efforts under the brand tagline “It’s Time for the Pocono Mountains.”

The new campaign, valued at over $1 Million, can be seen within the metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia, as well as along their major arteries.  It features display ads from 13 leading regional partners, including Woodloch Resort, Skytop Lodge and Pocono Raceway.  The efforts are expected to provide even more momentum to a tourism industry that employs more than 22,000 and generates over 24 million visitors annually.

“The summer ad campaign is exciting news for Pocono Mountains tourism, the regions strongest industry,” said David West, PMVB vice president of sales and marketing.  “Our goal is to let visitors and residents alike know just how vibrant the Pocono Mountains is.  This innovative campaign relies on partnerships with area resorts and attractions, ensuring our message reaches a large-scale audience and helps build brand awareness and salience to keep Pocono Mountains and its members top-of-mind.

“This campaign builds upon many of our previous efforts,” said Carl Wilgus, PMVB president and chief executive officer. “Once again, we fully expect to continue our growth and use the breadth of this program to reinforce our target markets.”

The new campaign highlights the outdoor amenities and family fun experiences through vibrant and colorful imagery with the use of interactive “play-on” pop-culture symbols commonly found in  today’s technology, such as “play,” “refresh,” “escape,” “return,” etc.  A variety of advertising and promotional efforts — outdoor, transit and digital — are running in several high trafficked areas, including Manhattan Double-Decker Bus Wraps; Commuter Rail Interior Cards on the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit and Metro North; nypost.com; Northern New Jersey Digital Billboard Network; Philly.com; Billboards along Pennsylvania’s I-76 and I-95; NBC10; NBC.com; and Live Web Cam Feeds on NBC4 and NBC10.

The campaign is expected to reach and increase visitation to the four-county destination by capturing the energy and natural elements of the destination.  Participate in our social media engagement with Twitter (@PoconoTourism) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/poconotourism) by sending and posting photographs of our campaign.  To stay receive specials and discounts, text “Poconos” to 77950 and be part of our mobile community.  For more information on the Pocono Mountains, visit 800poconos.com.
